Key Steps

Site Preparation
Golf Course Services, Inc. evaluated the steep, unstable banks surrounding the green and tee box, identifying erosion patterns, access limitations, and areas unsafe for traditional landscaping approaches.
Anchoring System
Crews installed upper and lower anchor rows along the most compromised slopes, creating a secure framework capable of supporting the ShoreSOX system on steep terrain.
Assembly and Fill
The team installed, stretched, and tethered the ShoreSOX system along more than 300 linear feet of shoreline, using appropriate fill material to reinforce and rebuild the eroded areas while maintaining slope integrity.
Aesthetic Finish
With irrigation support and a turf tender, the restored slopes were shaped, smoothed, and stabilized to promote healthy turf establishment and blend seamlessly into the surrounding course features.
Problem
Sea Island Plantation was experiencing shoreline instability along steep, eroding banks near a greenside area and adjacent tee box. These slopes had become difficult, and in some areas unsafe, to maintain using traditional landscaping techniques. Over time, erosion had compromised both appearance and functionality, making the ground more vulnerable to washouts, thinning turf, and continued degradation.
The course needed a solution capable of stabilizing steep, sensitive terrain without altering the natural look and feel of the property. With guest and player safety in mind, Sea Island sought a long-term approach that would strengthen ground support, protect the shoreline, and preserve aesthetics.

Solution
Golf Course Services, Inc. implemented the ShoreSOX system along 300+ linear feet of eroded shoreline, focusing on steep areas unsuitable for conventional sod or soil repair. The crew installed the anchored containment system to rebuild the failing slopes, reinforce the banks, and create a stable platform for vegetation.
With a turf tender and irrigation support, the team ensured proper hydration and growth conditions for the restored shoreline. This combination of system installation and turf support allowed the steep banks to be rebuilt in a controlled, clean, and environmentally sensitive manner.
Outcome
Golf Course Services, Inc. delivered a stronger, safer shoreline that now supports healthy turf and long-term stability. The restored slopes blend naturally into the surrounding course features, improving both aesthetics and playability for golfers throughout the season.
What began as an unstable, erosion-prone bank is now a clean, reinforced, and visually seamless shoreline, enhancing player safety, reducing maintenance challenges, and preserving the natural character of Sea Island Plantation.
