Site Preparation
Following lake dredging, the team prepared the shoreline and developed a plan to enhance the stability and appearance of the wedding peninsula, ensuring it integrated seamlessly with the bulkhead and surrounding native vegetation.
Anchoring System
The crew drilled holes for the stakes, made sure they were spaced correctly, and then set the anchors at the top and bottom of the shoreline. This created a strong base so the folded ShoreSOX system could sit securely on the underwater shelf and form a smooth slope above the water.
Assembly and Fill
ShoreSOX sections were stitched together and positioned, with 2x4s used to stretch and maintain tension. Sand was used to fill the system for quick settling, and installation moved from both ends of the shoreline toward the peninsula for efficient and neat completion.
Aesthetic Finish
After topping low spots and tamping high areas, the crew shaped the restored shoreline into a uniform, natural transition ready for turf. Kemper Lakes plans to vegetate the area with Kentucky Bluegrass near the clubhouse and fescue along the native shoreline for a seamless finish.
Problem
Kemper Lakes Golf Club needed to restore shoreline around a peninsula used for weddings and special events. The area had been reshaped during a recent dredging project, leaving exposed, unstable banks that required reinforcement and a more defined slope.
Because the shoreline sits directly across from the clubhouse and Hole One tee boxes, the golf course needed a solution that delivered both structural stability and high-quality aesthetics. The goal was to create a gentle, mow-able slope that would support maintained turf up to the water’s edge and withstand long-term use around a high-visibility event space.
Solution
Kemper Lakes installed 400 linear feet of 6ft ShoreSOX around the wedding peninsula, stabilizing the reshaped embankment and creating a reinforced shoreline ready for turf and long-term maintenance. Their team set anchor rows, stretched and positioned the mesh, and completed the full installation using a sand-heavy fill mix recommended for optimal wash-in performance.
Working in convex curves required careful preparation, so the crew began filling at the peninsula point to stretch the mesh outward before advancing along both sides of the shoreline. Two fill teams completed the length efficiently, even staying late on day two to finish all but a small section before final shaping.
Outcome
The completed ShoreSOX installation delivered a stable, visually seamless shoreline around the wedding peninsula. The restored slope provides a safe, mow-able edge and enhances the aesthetics around one of the club’s most photographed areas.
With miles of shoreline throughout Kemper Lakes, the team is well-positioned to apply this system on future projects, beginning with potential restoration along Hole 18’s green and fairway.
